Description: This is an oral history interview with Joe Reece that is part of a Hurricane Harvey Oral History Research Project. Mr. Reece was interviewed on March 29, 2018, at his home in Sugar Land, TX. He was a victim of Hurricane Harvey and the damage that came along with the event. In this interview, he explains his experience with previous hurricanes and discusses what his thoughts were prior to the hurricane. He touches on the damages that he faced as a result of the hurricane and how it affected him. More specifically, the topic of how pet owners are affected by threatening weather is examined. Mr. Reece expresses concern about the fact that the large majority of shelters restrict people with pets from seeking accommodation at their shelters. He continues by speaking about the consequences that he believes come along with the issue. The interview concludes with Mr. Reece explaining what precautions he would consider taking in preparation for any future emergency situation based on his past experience with threatening weather.
