Abstract

A study of hair technologies and how they’ve defined the African-Americans identity over time. The hair technologies have advanced and changed with the hair fads of the times; in the forties, you see the hot comb, in the sixties and seventies the pick make its day-view in the United States, the nineties the advancement of weaves and fake hair. These technologies encouraged me to study the spatial changes of the salon, the processes of straightening hair, and social and political events.
