Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to present the historical development of the photoelastic method in the field of engineering and to investigate a different way of using the photoelastic data as an aid in making a classical analysis of an indeterminate frame without having to resort to solving numerous simultaneous equations. The results obtained using this method are then compared with those obtained from a computer analysis using commercially available structural analysis program packages.
