Abstract
The wind tunnel simulation of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer ( A B L ) under various stabilities was undertaken in order to study atmospheric diffusion and air pollution. A literature review of the methods currently employed was made. A description of the A B L characteristics as a function of stability was obtained from the literature. Turbulence producing devices such as barriers, rough floors and screens were used to simulate various atmospheric stabilities. Wind tunnel data of instantaneous velocity, turbulence intensities, energy spectrum and length scales as well as a few visualization tests were obtained. A simulation criteria based on the matching of statistical quantities was applied to the wind tunnel data for evaluation of stability. Finally , techniques for the simulation of the neutral, neutral/slightly stable and neutral/slightly unstable A B L were developed.
