Abstract

The plastic method of design includes a number of specific advantages over the conventional allowable stress design method. Briefly, substantial saving is generally made in the use of materials and also, the analysis is simpler than an elastic analysis. Computer methods facilitate obtaining a quick and accurate solution to plastic design problems. There are linear and non-linear programming techniques. This work considers the Harrison non-linear programming technique, -he frame is loaded horizontally by wind and crane forces, vertically by gravity, crane and any other type of equipment usually found in actual mill buildings.
