Abstract
Subharmonic production in cavitation and variation of cavitation parameters with static pressure are reviewed. The effect of excess static pressure on the subharmonic output of ultrasonic cavitation noise in tap water and partially degassed water have been investigated in the range 0 - 100 psi. An optimum value of applied pressure for maximum yield of the subharmonic output and a higher pressure value at which the subharmonic output was almost suppressed were established, but another peak occurred sometimes at 40 psi excess static pressure. The results of the present investigation are discussed in terms of the volume occupied by cavities.
