Abstract

In discrete-time feedback control system design, the use of nonrecursive compensators has advantages. However, the existing methods for designing sucli compensators are difficult, and trial and error in nature. This thesis (1) investigates the basic properties of Gibbs' phenomena and extends it to the frequency domain to lay the foundation for understanding the window effects, (2) analyzes the stability and performance aspects of the discretetime feedback system via the fast Fourier algorithm, and (3) formulates a computer oriented nonrecursive compensator design procedure. The derivation of the trapezoidal window idea, the use of return difference for stability studies, and the establishment of the unified procedure for compensator synthesis are believed new.
