On the metabolism of cholesterol and beta-sitosterol by Streptomyces sp.

The study of the effect of the various nitrogen sources on cholesterol degradation by Streptomyces I4 pH8, was carried out. Experiments were also performed at different pH values and with different buffer solutions. These results were correlated with those of the nitrogen sources, and it was indicated that a pH of 8.5 gave the optimum growth rate with this organism regardless of the nitrogen source used. [...]
