Abstract

Problem. The central problem of this study was to determine if a relationship existed between the formal structural types of school district organizations and the perceived job satisfaction of classroom teachers. The rationale for the study emanated from one facet of contemporary administrative theory: organizations, with their formal structure, affect the individuals within the organizations. Specifically, the study attempted to answer the following questions: 1. Do classroom teachers perceive greater needs satisfaction in relatively tall, medium, or flat type formal organizational structures? 2. Do classroom teachers in relatively tall type organizational structure attach more importance to certain needs areas than their counterparts in relatively medium and flat structural types? 3. Are there any significant needs satisfaction differences in teacher groups when classified according to experience within tall, medium, and flat type organizational structures? [...]
