Abstract
Purpose. The major purpose of the study was to determine whether there are significant relationships between school superintendents' perceptions of elementary principals' job performances measured by a nine item evaluative instrument and: 1. The similarity between school superintendents' and elementary principals1 civic beliefs 2. The similarity between school superintendents’ and elementary principals' styles of management. The secondary purpose of the study was to determine, by means of statistical analysis, the relationship between the civic beliefs and the styles of management of the administrators included in the study. Three hypotheses were posed: 1. Principals whose civic beliefs are similar to those of their superintendents will tend to receive high evaluations more frequently than those principals who differ from their superintendents in civic beliefs. 2. Principals whose styles of management are similar to those of their superintendents will tend to receive high evaluations more frequently than those principals who differ from their superintendents in styles of management.
